Video Arcades and Smurfs are very popular in 1980s. There are many arcades now, but during the 80s, they were the "in" place to hang out. It can play many kinds of games. Many people like to play. When I was a child, I often played with my classmates. Smurfs are the blue elflike creatures and live in the forest. They like to take adventure and often do the crazy things.

By learning Unit 1, I know more about culture. After watch three videos, I know about the definition of culture. I know the culture is not static. It is dynamic. We should learn the culture because it will change every time. At first, I think the culture is like the history. Now I change my mind. Culture includes many things, such as food, clothing, behavior and so on. I also learn about new words about culture. For example, cultural relativism is that make choices between culture. One is the good, the other is the bad. I think it is crazy because there is diversity in culture. Every culture has a good side. We cannot just choose one culture which you think it is the best. We should learn the advantage side and avoid the disadvantage side. I made a cultural identity poster and discussed with my classmate. I know more Chinese culture.   There are five ideas about my country's cultural identity. I am from China. Dragon is a Chinese totem. It symbolizes power, dignity, culture and wisdom. Chinese known as the descendants of dragons. Also, dragon is one of the twelve zodiac signs. Second, tea is a traditional drink in China.Tea has many species, such as red tea, green tea and so on. Tea has health benefit. It is good for old people. Third, China has twenty-four solar terms.They reflect changes in natural rhythms. Cold dew is one of them. It is little rain and dryness on this time. Fourth, the mooncakes is a traditional food in China. People eat in the mid-autumn festival. People all have a reunion on that day. Last one is red envelope. The red envelopes given by elders to juniors during the New Year are called New Year money. It shows their best wishes and good luck.

          Different place has different culture, so culture shock is everywhere. When I arrive at the U.S, the first culture shock is language. Though I study some English in my high school, but it cannot be useful. I can't communicate with people in English. A customs officer asked me some questions when I got off the plane. I was nervous and I didn't know what I should say because I can't hear anything. My brain went blank.  The second culture shock is tax. We don't need to pay tax in China if we buy something. I saw something which was 4.99 dollars. When I paid 5 dollars, the sale told me that I need to pay tax. I was so embarrassed. That's my experience of culture shock.
